Chief executive Richard Masters has confirmed he wants to see the Premier League take control of professional women's football in England, although now is not the right time.

Speaking to the influential Department for Culture, Media & Sport select committee, Masters said he would like to see the Women's Super League and Championship come under the Premier League umbrella from a 'personal perspective'.

However, the current crisis in sport caused by coronavirus has led to a delay. "In the past year we have had lots of dialogue with the FA and with our own clubs about the Premier League at some point in the future assuming responsibility for the professional [women's] game," he told the committee.

"We decided collectively that now wasn't the right time but we will return to that topic at some point in the near future."
