Rose Ladies Series final cancelled due to fire at Wentworth

The closing round of the Rose Ladies Series final has been cancelled due to a serious fire in the woods surrounding the Wentworth course where the event was being held.

Players and caddies had to be evacuated from the course when a fire on Chobham Common spread to the trees by the 10th hole. It was hoped the final round could be completed on Saturday but organisers have been forced to cancel indefinitely.

Late on Friday night a statement was issued: "With a heavy heart, the Major Incident Command Centre have closed Wentworth tomorrow due to the severity of the ongoing fire risk.

"The Grand Final restart is cancelled until further notice. Most importantly, players, caddies & staff must be safe."

England's Alice Hewson was leading on five-under-par following the first two rounds, one shot ahead of Charley Hull.
