The Football Association are preparing to turn to Netherlands national coach Sarina Wiegman to replace Phil Neville as England manager.

Wiegman led the Dutch to the runners-up spot in the 2019 World Cup and it appears The FA have a straight choice between her and Jill Ellis, whose USA side beat Holland in the final.

According to The Times, Wiegman has strong support from within The FA and her salary expectations, at around £400,000-a-year (thought to be half of what Ellis might command), would be more in line with Neville's current remuneration.

Ellis is a free agent following the end of her time with the USA whilst the Dutch FA would require compensation to release Wiegman from her current contract.

Neville will step down from the role in July 2021, leaving his successor little time to prepare the side for the delayed Tokyo Olympics. The FA are expected to make an announcement about the appointment this week.
