Authorities are preparing to let fans in to West Ham's Women's Super League fixture against Arsenal on 13 September but plans to allow a crowd in at champions Chelsea's trip to Manchester United on the opening weekend of the season have been scrapped.

Up to 1,000 spectators will be permitted at West Ham's Dagenham & Redbridge home, according to The Times. Concerns over local lockdown rules forced the Football Association to rethink its original choice of test venue.

More games are expected to be earmarked as test events before crowds can return to a limited extent at all matches from 1 October. Capacity will be limited to a maximum of a third at any given game.
