Lionesses begin building for 2023 World Cup with new-look squad

England head coach Phil Neville admitted he named his Lionesses squad for this month's training camp with an eye on the country's long-term development.

Seven players were called up for the first time to the 30-strong squad, including free agent Lotte Wubben-Moy, Millie Turner of Manchester United and Chelsea's Niamh Charles.

Players based overseas, such as Lyon's Nikita Parris have been excused from joining up for the training camp due to coronavirus travel restrictions.

"This is a critical moment in our development," said Neville. "Every camp from now on is aimed at building a team capable of competing for the highest honours in world football, including the home Euros in 2022 and the World Cup in 2023.

"It is important that we offer as many opportunities as possible for some of the country's best young talent to stake their claim for a place in the senior England squad for this exciting three-year period."

The squad will meet up on Tuesday 15 September and stay at St.George's Park for a week. There will be a full training match on 18 September.
