Women's Super League review: Heath and Press impress on debut

American superstars Tobin Heath and Christen Press both came off the bench to make their Women's Super League debuts for Manchester United in a 3-0 victory against Brighton. Heath set up Jane Ross for United's third whilst Press nearly scored late on as well.

Not to be outdone in the blue half of Manchester, another US national team star was amongst the scorers as Sam Mewis netted for City in a 4-1 victory against Tottenham. There was no FA Cup hangover following City's progress to the final as Chloe Kelly with two and Ellen White also found the scoresheet.

Arsenal managed to put their FA Cup disappointments aside as they returned to the top of the table after beating Bristol City 3-1. Caitlin Foord played in Jordan Nobbs for the opener before scoring herself, while Vivianne Miedema added the third late on.

Chelsea climbed back into the top three following a tight 1-0 win at Birmingham, Fran Kirby scoring what proved to be the winner inside the opening 10 minutes. Further goals should have followed and Beth England had a strike incorrectly ruled out for offside, while Birmingham could have equalised when Harriet Scott's late effort flew just wide.

A single goal also decided the match between West Ham and Reading, with Lauren Bruton claiming all three points for the Royals. The result moved Reading into the top half of the table at the expense of Brighton and leaves West Ham with just a solitary point from their opening three matches.

On Saturday, Everton maintained their perfect start to the campaign by beating Aston Villa 6-0. There were braces for both Hayley Raso and Claire Emslie while Valerie Gauvin continued her fine run of goalscoring form and Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah also scored.
