Lionesses turn to Norway legend Riise for interim role

World Cup winner Hege Riise will take charge of England until Sarina Wiegman begins full-time in September following the early departure of Phil Neville.

Riise won the the European Championship, World Cup and Olympic gold during a 188-cap career with Norway before moving into management. She won six successive titles with LSK Kvinner as assistant and then head coach, as well as working with the US national team.

Canada's Rhian Wilkinson will assist Riise and the pair are under consideration to lead Team GB at the Tokyo Olympics, a role Neville was also expected to fulfill.

"This is a proud and ambitious team," said Riise. "I look forward to working with [them] and I am confident of making a positive impact when I meet up with the squad in February."
