New helpline for gymnasts to report bullying and abuse

The British Athletes Commission and children's charity NSPCC have set up a new helpline for gymnasts to report complaints of bullying or abuse.

Olympic medallist Amy Tinkler is amongst those who have come forward recently to highlight abusive behaviour within the sport.

BAC board member Peter Crowther told BBC Sport they want the dedicated helpline to be seen as a 'safe place' for athletes.

"We will then get each of these athletes the respective support they need," he said. "It will be staffed by appropriately-qualified personnel, and will deal with all queries as they come in.

We have already had inquiries. It was gut-wrenching to see these utterly disgraceful allegations be made public and concerning not just athletes, but young children."
