Serena Williams to return to action in August

Serena Williams has confirmed she will compete in the Top Seed Open in Kentucky from 10-16 August, as the WTA rolls out more events ahead of the US Open.

It will be the 23-times Grand Slam champion's first appearance since the start of the pandemic and has been added to the calendar along with a tournament in Prague on the same dates.

The WTA had already announced the tour will resume with the Palermo Open in Italy from 3-9 August. The Western & Southern Open in New York is the only other event so far confirmed ahead of the US Open which starts on 31 August.
