The West Indies could be a late replacement if South Africa are prevented from touring England in September.

The England and Wales Cricket Board are discussing the possibility as the ongoing coronavirus crisis in South Africa casts doubts on the team's ability to travel.

They are due to face England in two Twenty20 matches and four one-day internationals next month.

Officials from the West Indies are keen to fill the gap if necessary, although they have their own travel issues including borders being shut between some islands.

An ECB statement said: "Throughout this period [the] ECB has had discussions with a number of boards about the possibility of playing women's international cricket in a bio-secure environment using the model developed for men's international cricket.

"Discussions continue and we remain committed to hosting women's international cricket this summer."
