Edwards named as interim head coach for Wales Women

Wales sevens coach Darren Edwards will take charge of Wales Women's rearranged Six Nations fixture against Scotland at the end of October.

Edwards has been named as interim women's head coach, replacing Rowland Phillips who stepped down in March.

The Welsh Rugby Union has struggled to find a permanent appointment to lead Wales into the 2021 Rugby World Cup and the Commonwealth Games in 2022.

Edwards named a 35-player squad to prepare for the Scotland match, including the uncapped Laura Bleehen.

He said: "I enjoy challenges and I think we're all pleased to be back on the rugby pitch again after such a long lay-off. I observed Wales women last year and I know they created a great environment on and off the pitch. Environment is key for me.

"The Scotland game provides a perfect focus to get us all back in the game 12 months out from the Rugby World Cup."
