Coverage of Women’s Sport in the UK has been given a boost by the appointment of Jo Osborne to a brand new role within the Sky Sports network.

Osborne will be the Head of Women’s Sport as part of Sky’s ambition to become the major broadcaster and investor in women’s sport in the UK.

Speaking to www.broadcastnow.co.uk, Osborne said: “I’m delighted to be taking on this role at such a pivotal time for women’s sport. I look forward to working with my colleagues across the business and our partners to grow and champion our women’s sport rights and bring this exciting content to an even wider audience.”

Sky Sports currently covers the Women's Super League in football, US Open tennis, Women's Golf, The Hundred in Cricket and a number of other important events, along with an excellent (and growing) section of their website dedicated to female athletes and clubs.

The appointment of Osborne is a terrific step forward for the broadcaster and for women's sport in the UK. As we have all seen from the success of the Lionesses last summer, improved coverage and exposure for women's sport directly leads to increased participation at all levels.

Well played Sky Sports.
