The Rise of Womens Cricket Bats
Over the past decade, women’s cricket has undergone a significant transformation.
What was once a niche corner of the sport has become a dynamic, global phenomenon with growing audiences thanks to the growth of the WPL, the Women's Big Bash and the Hundred. New professional contracts have led to a new generation of young girls inspired to pick up a bat.
From the sold-out stands at Lord’s to primetime TV coverage of the Women’s Ashes, the momentum behind the women’s game is undeniable. As the players push the boundaries of skill, strength, and athleticism, the equipment they use must keep pace.
At Trogon Cricket, we’re proud to support the growth of the women’s game with a specialised range of handmade English willow cricket bats explicitly made for women and girls.
A New Era for Women’s Cricket
The rise in visibility, investment, and respect for the women’s game has been hard-won and richly deserved.
Whether it’s the ICC Women's T20 World Cup drawing record-breaking viewership (with an astonishing 1.1 billion total video views) or the ECB's introduction of professional contracts for domestic female players, cricket is rapidly becoming a more inclusive and representative sport.
Yet with this rise comes a fresh set of needs. Female players, particularly those coming through the grassroots and academy pathways, have long had to adapt to equipment not specifically designed for them.
Too often, they’ve been handed bats that are either junior-sized and lack power or full-sized adult men's bats that are too heavy; nobody wants a hand-me-down. It’s a problem we set out to solve.
A Bat Designed with Women in Mind
At Trogon Cricket, we believe performance should never be compromised by poorly matched equipment.
That’s why we created a dedicated collection of handmade English willow bats designed explicitly for female cricketers.
Each bat in our ladies' range is crafted from hand-selected English willow and shaped to deliver a light pick-up without sacrificing power.
The profiles still feature large edges and pronounced spines, so players can generate the kind of punch and timing required to compete at the highest level. The key difference lies in the careful balancing and shaping that reduces overall weight while maintaining presence through the blade.
Our women’s bats typically range from 2lb 3oz to 2lb 7oz, making them ideal for players who want manoeuvrability and speed through the air without losing confidence in the bat’s hitting zone. Whether you’re a top-order batter who thrives on placement or a powerful striker who clears the infield, our bats are built to match your style.
Handcrafted in Sussex, Backed by Tradition
Each Trogon bat is handmade in our Sussex workshop using traditional methods, which allows us to make subtle adjustments for balance and pick-up that aren’t possible on factory lines.
We regularly speak with female cricketers, from club players to aspiring professionals, to understand their needs and incorporate that feedback into our designs. It's not a case of shrinking the men’s bats and painting them pink. It's about respecting the athleticism, power, and finesse of the women’s game and building bats that meet those standards.
Making a Difference at Every Level
Our commitment to women’s cricket doesn’t stop at elite players. We make bats for all ages and skill levels, including junior girls who are just starting their cricket journey. We understand how important it is to feel comfortable and confident at the crease, and an appropriately weighted bat can make all the difference.
Too often, young girls give up because the equipment doesn’t feel right or they are just using 'boys' equipment. Our goal is to make sure every girl who wants to play cricket has a bat that helps her love the game, develop her skills, and dream big.
Supporting the Future of the Game
We know the women’s game is only going to grow from here. With more school programmes, more club teams, and more media coverage than ever before, the future is bright. At Trogon Cricket, we’re proud to be part of that future, not just as bat makers, but as passionate supporters of the game and the people who play it.
We’ll continue to innovate, adapt, and listen. Our range will evolve in response to the needs of our players, and our commitment will remain grounded in quality, craftsmanship, and a strong sense of community.
