Dream over for Serena as Azarenka wins at last

Serena Williams' quest for an elusive 24th Grand Slam title was put on hold again as she lost to Victoria Azarenka in the semi-finals of the US Open.

It was Azarenka's first victory over Williams at a Grand Slam tournament after 10 previous defeats, including the final at Flushing Meadows in 2012 and 2013.

The 38-year-old Williams needed treatment and heavy strapping for an Achilles injury and, despite winning the first set easily, she eventually succumbed to a 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 defeat.

Azarenka will now face Naomi Osaka in the final. The Japanese former champion beat Jennifer Brady in three sets.
