The World Athletics Championships is underway in Oregon and Britain’s Laura Muir, a big hope for a medal, comfortably qualified for the 1500m semi-finals.

Euro 22 has come to a close for Northern Ireland and, after a stubborn start against England, the tournament debutants succumbed to a 5-0 defeat. England probed their way through the first-half and eventually found a breakthrough five minutes before the interval with a goal from Fran Kirby.

Beth Mead added a second four minutes later and it was game over when Alessio Russo scored twice early in the second half and a late own goal completed the victory.

England move on to a quarter-final against Spain or Denmark on Wednesday.

Sophia Dunkley smashed her way to a brilliant 107, as England defeated South Africa by 114 runs in the second one day international. England scored an impressive 337/5 and South Africa were all out for 223, with Charlie Dean taking 4-53.

England sadly bowed out of the Hockey World Cup after a 1-0 defeat to Argentina.
