There have been many inspirational stories through the history of sport.
Ora Washington is someone who starred in two disciplines, an outstanding performer in both tennis and basketball.
Not only was she was a trailblazer for female sport in an era when just participating was frowned upon, Washington was also a black woman succeeding at a time of huge civil unrest in the United States.
In March 1976, she was inducted into the Black Athletes Hall of Fame but the fact organisers didn’t even know she had passed away five years earlier demonstrates the lack of respect shown to women in sport during this period in history.
The BBC have published her full incredible story – an inspirational read.
