Burrage beats Konta in Battle of the Brits

Jodie Burrage was the big winner on the opening day of the Battle of the Brits Team Tennis tournament, beating British No.1 Johanna Konta 6-4 6-3.

There was another surprise when Katie Boulter - recent winner of the Progress Tour Women's Championships, where she beat Burrage in the final - lost to Emma Raducanu by the same scoreline.

In the other women's singles match, there was a straightforward victory for Heather Watson against Beth Grey 7-5 6-4.

But Watson, playing alongside tournament host Jamie Murray, lost her opening mixed doubles match 7-5 3-6 10-8 to Harriet Dart and Joe Salisbury.

The British Bulldogs team recovered from Konta's defeat to move into a 9-4 opening day lead against the Union Jacks in the Ryder Cup-style team event. Each of the 60 matches across the week are worth points, with the teams needing to reach 60 points for overall victory.
